Stiffkey

The small coastal village of Stiffkey is positioned along the Glaven Valley between Wells and Blakeney on the North Norfolk Coast and is a designated area of outstanding natural beauty. There has been a settlement here since Roman times and the village that stands here now is a charming mixture of brick and flint cottages.

It is a well known village for a number of reasons including the Notorious Vicar of Stiffkey who brought prostitutes from London back to the village in an apparent attempt to ‘help them’. He eventually died while working in a seaside show reading the bible in a barrel, in a Lions den. He was mauled to death and is now buried back in Stiffkey.

The National Trust’s Stiffkey Salt Marshes are a rich area for walking, paddling, canoeing, nature spotting, bird watching etc, etc! If you watch the tide and walk straight out towards the sea, you will reach ‘High Sands’. Rarely do people walk out this far and it like having your own private beach! You will often come across the seals basking here.

Stiffkey is also known for it’s blue-edged cockles ‘Stewkey Blues’ , which you may find served up in the village pub while you sit next to their open fire. The village is also served with an excellent shop and post office, which serves homemade produce and excellent teas and coffees.

The Cottages

We have 3 properties in the coastal village of Stiffkey. All the cottages are very different in style and the number they accommodate. They have been designed and furnished to offer relaxing, unfussy country coastal living and all come equipped with everything that you should need for an extremely comfortable stay.

All the cottages have central heating with constant hot water on demand.

If you’re looking for that perfect ‘round the fire’ winter retreat Samphire Cottage has a large wood burner capable of heating the entire property.

This Cottage is highly unique as it is set extremely close to the marshes along with two other properties owned by our family. It was once a part of Stiffkey’s anti-aircraft training camp during World War II and has been in our family since the site was decommissioned.

Stiffkey Cottages:

These cottages are nestled together in a quiet corner of Stiffkey but are also very private from one another. If you are a very large group – why not rent the cottages together? The garden at Stiffkey Cottages is large enough to accommodate everyone at that BBQ!
